Aerodynamic Optimization of a Road Helmet
Louis Garneau had an objective: to develop the most aerodynamic road helmet for Tour de France 2012.
Lx Sim expertise in aerodynamics via CFD studies allowed us to understand the behavior of the air around a standard road helmet and identify improvement opportunities. Several competitors helmets were also studied for benchmarking.
Our role was to help the client in interpreting the results and bring ideas for aerodynamic improvement.
Results:
The helmet, named Course, is the most aerodynamic road helmet on the market (minimum drag, tested in wind tunnel against competitors’ aero helmets) and used by Europcar racing team on the international circuit. The aerodynamic development process was presented by Lx Sim at an European Simulation Conference.
